Volume-wise it really varies bird to bird — some males barely bother to call, others are proud little foghorns. A few things that help keep peace with neighbors: keeping coveys small (fewer males = less overlap), housing away from shared fences/windows, and a covered or partially enclosed pen which muffles sound a fair bit. Some keepers also just keep males out of the mix entirely and rely on a hen-only flock for eggs, like you said.
